t Tequesta Marine Bio-sciences sees an ocean of promise in algae. And like many other capital intensive ventures in South Florida, the company is betting on the Scripps Research Institute in Palm Beach County to spur outside funding and turn its ideas to profit.
But as of spring 2005, more than 12 months after Boca Raton-based Tequesta launched, no one besides its three co-founders had wagered any money on its success.
"We're not venture-funded yet," says Rhys L. Williams, a Tequesta co-founder and its CEO, speaking on his cellular telephone while driving in rush-hour traffic on Interstate-95.
