WASHINGTON - Health care insurers and providers welcomed as "a positive step" President Bill Clinton's naming of First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton to head the administration's health care reform task force.

In choosing his wife to direct the President's Task Force on National Health Care Reform, President Clinton said "this is going to be an unprecedented effort."

Industry representatives commenting on his selection of the First Lady to direct the task force were unanimous in saying it reflected the importance the President attaches to the development of a successful health care reform plan.
