Jul. 17--Medical students are being bullied by doctors and nurses while working in hospitals, but they often keep quiet because they fear that complaining will harm their careers. "There is a feeling that it is character-building, or that you learn better by being embarrassed, but it has reached a point that is not acceptable," says Leigh Bissett, chairman of the BMA's Medical Students" Committee and a third-year medical student at the University of East Anglia.
The BMA polled more than 1,000 students and found that one in four had been bullied by doctors and one in six by nurses.
