MUSKEGON, MICH. -- Operators of the newest high-speed ferry on Lake Michigan say the Lake Express Ferry's second year is an improvement, with amenity upgrades paying off and more turnaround time leaving fewer delays.
In contrast to a first season fraught with cancellations, no cross-lake trips have been scrapped yet this year, and only three of the thrice-daily jaunts between Milwaukee and Muskegon have been significantly delayed.
Ken Szallai, president of Lake Express, wouldn't give passenger figures, but said ridership in the VIP business class is up 49 percent this year over the same period in 2004.
