School photos accounted for the largest percent of professional portraits taken in 2004, but the market is competitive and saturated.
According to the National Center for Education Statistics, Washington, D.C., school enrollment increased 19 percent between 1988 and 2001, but is only projected to increase 5 percent between 2001 and 2013, and will decrease in some U.S. regions.
Photographers' customer base will not experience the growth it used to, so they will need to look at alternative methods for increasing revenue. This may mean exploring the growing niche markets available; markets like sports are nowhere near reaching their potential. (See the June ...
