It's hardly a surprise that San Franciscans lead the nation in wine consumption. But it's shocking to hear that they consume less sugar per capita than residents of any other city.
After all, Ghirardelli started here in 1852, and is still popular, while local company Scharffenberger makes some of the most coveted boutique chocolates in the land. And as healthy as most California cuisine might be, there's a whole lot of butter and duck confit going on at San Francisco restaurants.
So maybe it's just we tourists enjoying the caloric ...
