Jul. 20--CRYSTAL RIVER -- Unless there's a change of heart on the City Council, Crystal River's taxes are going up.
A majority of council members agreed during a budget workshop Monday night that the tentative millage rate should be 6.19, up from 5.60. That's a 10.5 percent increase.
A 6.19 millage rate would pay for the city's operations and still provide a $539,000 reserve fund, finance director Mark Thiele said. That's 12 percent of the operating budget.
