Improving the Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners, Michigan (north of Kalamazoo), is hard to do. Even so, adding a period diner, open for lunch each day, makes a trip to this museum an even more worthwhile experience.
This is an elegant diner, predating the all-stainless-steel era. The interior includes fabric and wood in addition to the expected chrome. The impression is of an oversized railroad observation car, with customers seated in cozy booths and on stools facing a counter. Staff wear color-coordinated period uniforms.
