At a poetry slam, the truth gets delivered in three- to five-minute increments.
Sometimes that truth is funny. Sometimes it is angry. And sometimes it is poignant. But it's that truth that attracts both performers and audiences to a new, exploding art form that features absolutely no special effects or bells and whistles of any kind. There's just a microphone, an audience, and poets telling their stories.
