Mendoza can have his line. Daryl Jones and the Ems have a hard-earned victory.
Jones homered in the eighth, then singled in the 10th to set up the game-winning run as Eugene broke two ties to beat Boise 14-13 in a Northwest League game before 2,266 at Civic Stadium on Monday.
Jones came into the game hitting .189 and reached the dreaded Mendoza line after going 2-for-5. His home run to lead off the eighth gave Eugene its first lead of the night, and he led off the 10th inning with a single before being lifted for pinch-runner Will Venable, who scored the winning run.
