Amherst Technologies files for bankruptcy.

Jul. 22--MERRIMACK -- Amherst Technologies, LLC has filed for protection under federal bankruptcy laws, citing the need to reorganize its financial structure.

The Merrimack-based computer software and hardware provider filed for Chapter 11 protection on Tuesday, according to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court filing.

The company blames the downturn and "ongoing instability" of the high-tech industry over the past three years, as well as the financing of past acquisitions, for its need to restructure.
