The Daily Weather Map has been a fixture of the National Weather Service and its predecessors since 1871. Designed to provide interested readers--including businessmen, farmers, the press, and forecasters--with a synopsis of national weather conditions for a single day, the publication has undergone many revisions during its existence.
One of the most significant daily maps published did not represent a blizzard, tornado outbreak, or any other major weather event, but rather a shift in the meteorological paradigm by which forecasters understand and predict such storms.
