The Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 Drifter has long existed in my mind as "The Indian Chief that isn't really a Chief." With its snazzy, skirted fenders, two-into-one pipes, studded seat, and numerous other "Indian-esque" shared visual cues, the Drifter effectively evokes the 1940s-era nostalgia of the Indian with as few obvious concessions to the last 60 years of progress as possible.
Without delving into any of the trademark ramifications of the old Indian company, the later Indian company or any Indian companies yet to be reborn again, let us just say Kawasaki has made an artful nod to the art deco lines of the old Chief. Nostalgia doesn't work very well on its own, ...
