Horse riding includes a variety of different branches of the sport. The unifying factor is the fact that all are performed by the horse and rider working as a team. For my photojournalism assignment, I was looking for a subject for sports photography that is not as common as track and field events but which is officially recognized and is a competitive event at the Olympic Games. One branch of horse riding competition, show jumping, dates back as early as 1868 in Ireland and Great Britain and, of course, continues today with great popularity in many countries. For this assignment, show jumping became my subject.
