SMOKING BAN TALK BRINGS OUT CROWD IN FITCHBURG BUSINESS OWNERS OPPOSE PROPOSAL.(METRO)

FITCHBURG -- Business owners turned out in force today to oppose a proposed smoking ban, but Ald. Richard Bloomquist will push ahead with his plan to eliminate tobacco from bars, restaurants and bowling centers.

Bloomquist, representing the third district in this city south of Madison, said messages he has received from Fitchburg residents ran "four to one" in favor of such a smoking ban.

Business owners said otherwise.

About 50 of them came to City Hall today at the urging of the city's Chamber of Commerce, telling Bloomquist and three other council members who attended the informal meeting that a smoking ban would kill ...
