SEOUL, July 22 (Yonhap) -- South Korea on Friday opened a direct private phone line with North Korea for the first time in 60 years as part of preparations for video reunions of separated families next month.

KT Corp., South Korea's biggest fixed-line and broadband Internet operator, said the phone line links Seoul with the North Korean capital of Pyongyang. A fax machine connecting the two capitals was also installed.

This is the first private phone link between the two Koreas, though Seoul and Pyongyang had direct phone lines between their governments in the past. The opening of the direct phone line follows the laying of a fiber-optic cable ...
