Textile mill executives credit the domestic textile machine industry with effectively producing quick and flexible computerized knitting machinery, but they bemoan the lack of development of materials handling machinery. Computerized materials handling machinery is needed for the total automation of the domestic textile industry so that it can compete with foreign mills. Textile machinery manufacturers claim that they are making process in producing faster materials handling machines, but say that progress in sinker, cam and needle technology is needed to produce a new, faster generation of machines.
