Jul. 22--HAMMOND -- Jacques Cartier State Park beach was closed Thursday because of high E. coli content in a water sample.
Kevin A. Kieff, regional director of the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, said the beach will be closed while his staff conducts another test. If the result of the second test is favorable, the beach will reopen this afternoon, he said.
However, if the E. coli content is still high, the beach will remain closed and the department will continue periodic testing until it's found the bacteria level in the water is safe.
