Jul. 26--Pradit could not stop reading the front page last Wednesday, with its story kindling hope, finally, that the latest attempt by the government to rein in the violence in the South could revive his business, and his life.
The government had decreed that Thailand's restive southernmost provinces were an emergency zone.
The effect of the insurgency in the three southernmost provinces of Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat is not only being felt by southern residents but by many other people -- such as Mr Pradit, a middle-aged parts salesman and native Bangkokian whose home and business are 1,000 km from the crisis area.
