Article: IFA President urges Congress to act on self-employment bill for veterans: International Franchise Association President Matthew Shay testified before Congress May 25 in support of legislation that would allow U.S. veterans to use a portion of their educational benefits to pay for the training costs of purchasing a franchised small business.(government relations)(International Franchise Association)

The "Veterans Self-Employment Act," introduced by U.S. Rep. Richard Baker (R-La.), was heard by the Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity of the U.S. House Veterans Affairs Committee.

Among other provisions, the bill would establish a five-year pilot program that would allow American military-service members, veterans, national guardsmen, reservists, and qualified others to use some of their educational assistance entitlements toward franchise training expenses.
