The pendulum of U.S. business interest in other countries now swings toward Europe. The unification of the European market and the emergence of Eastern Europe as a non-communist market bloc have been the events pushing that pendulum. Of all the European countries, Germany holds a special position. For one, it is the only country to suddenly include a portion of Eastern Europe within its boundaries. The process of reunification of Western and Eastern Germany has been fascinating to watch-though possibly more fascinating if one does not actually have to live through it in Germany.
