The State Of The Union: Maybe it comes from growing up in California, with the southern tip of Nevada sitting out there beyond all that desert: I associate the idea of gambling with the idea of crossing state lines.
American Indian gaming changed a lot of that. You don't even have to cross a county line. There are slot machines on nine San Diego County Indian reservations.
Of course, there are plenty of other casinos up and down the state. California's Indian casinos continue to grow as an economic force. They had gaming revenue of $5.3 billion during 2004, up from $4.7 billion in 2003 and $3.7 billion in 2002.
