Aug. 2--The Lehigh Valley is home to more jobs than ever before, according to June data to be released today by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry.
The 337,400 jobs in the region during June were a record high and about 3,000 more than last year. Healthcare, warehousing and retail were the major drivers of job growth over the year.
The jobs news is a welcome change from the dismal hiring climate for job seekers since the 2001 economic recession. But today, the region seems to have not only recovered but returned to robust hiring. "It looks very favorable," said Lehigh Valley economist Kamran Afshar.
