Many companies involved in supplying the international mining industry with equipment or services have been having a pretty lean time of late - as has much of the industry itself. The worldwide recession, coupled with metals and minerals prices well below their real peaks, has cut capital investment. This has had a marked effect, not only on equipment sales for mining and processing, but also on whole segments of the industry in which perhaps the mineral exploration sector has been worst affected.
