Industry wrestles with newer formats as HDTV arrives
There are so many different DVD playback and recording formats, some DVDs won't play on standard consumer DVD players. Buyers may have to resort to checking compatibility specifications to learn what plays in their DVD models.
Let's briefly review the many different DVD formats, and describe the types of jobs for which they are designed. The three Read-Only formats are DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, and DVD-ROM.
