Consumers are confused about their cropped digital photographs
When buying a digital model, most consumers have no idea what the camera's aspect ratio is--the width-to-length ratio of the photo produced by the camera's imaging sensor.
For example, many digital cameras have a 4:3 aspect ratio, while a 35mm negative has a 3:2 ratio.
A dilemma arises when prints are made from digital camera image files. Let's go back to the familiar 35mm negative. When ordering an 8-by-10-inch enlargement (4:5 ratio) from a 35mm negative, one of two things happen. Either part of the negative's image is cropped in the print, or there will be the full-negative image, ...
