MANISTEE, Mich. -- The last time I drove along the shores of Lake Michigan and Grand Traverse Bay during July, I was in search of dried cherries -- by the boxful.
I'm a fan of plump cherry pie plus a handful of dried cherries for twice the cherry goodness. I'm a fan of cherry crisp with almonds in the buttery, oat crust, cherry cola, maraschino cherries, fresh, sweet cherries, chocolate-covered cherries and dried tart cherries in steaming oatmeal or all by themselves. Why restrict all the wrinkly fruit in the cupboard to raisins when there can be dried cherries, cranberries, too?
It was about 15 years ...
