By the end of next year, Macy's will replace Hecht's department stores in Hampton Roads.
Federated Department Stores Inc., as part of its pending merger with The May Department Stores Co., announced plans to convert several of May's regional chains to the Macy's name, moving to create a national brand.
Hecht's stores in Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and the District of Columbia are on the list of those slated to lose their banners to Federated's flagship Macy's brand sometime in fall 2006.
