Aug. 5--A Southbury man is laying claim to the legendary name of Parker Brothers, which manufactured fine shotguns in Meriden from just after the Civil War through the 1930s.
So far, though, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has refused to approve Ernie Lazor's attempt to register the trademark "Parker Bros. Makers Inc." Examiners there ruled in April that the right to "Parker Bros." cannot be assigned because the "Parker" brand already is held by a gun maker in Delaware.
Lazor, who said he has spent six years designing a new double-barreled shotgun that he hopes will sell for between $18,500 and $125,000, is undeterred.
