MERCURY is considered to be one of the most harmful metals to the body and the environment. This heavy metal has no known biological function in living organisms. Mercury appears in the form of elemental mercury and mercury compounds, both inorganic and organic, which display various toxicological properties. (1) Mercury circulates naturally in the biosphere, and it is also released into the environment by human activities as a result of use of mercury and its compounds in agriculture and industry. (2)
