Las Palmas recently moved from the obscurity of a residential neighborhood on Sherman Avenue near Maple Bluff. You'll now find it at one of the most prominent spots in Madison, with outdoor dining so close to East Washington Avenue that you can feel gusts of exhaust from passing traffic.
Five years ago, Maria Balderas, a retired librarian, opened a restaurant and Mexican deli in a house across from Burrows Park (now Gaston's).
