* Chronic pelvic pain (CPP) is constant or intermittent pain in the lower abdomen and pelvic area that has been present for six months or more. The exact symptoms and course of disease are unique for each woman, but the condition usually improves after menopause. It affects one in seven American women ages 18 to 50.
* In addition to pelvic pain, other symptoms may include severe menstrual cramps, pain during sex, urination or bowel movement, low backache right before a woman's menstrual period and rectal pain.
