* There currently are more than two million Americans who suffer from schizophrenia each year, and roughly one percent of the population will develop schizophrenia at some point in their lifetime, according to the National Institute of Mental Health.
* The number of reported cases of schizophrenia is divided rather evenly between men and women, although the disorder tends to present itself at different age groupings for the two sexes. Onset of the disorder tends to occur earlier for men-usually in the late teens or early 20s-compared to women, who generally begin to show signs of trouble in their 20s or early 30s.
