A variety of treatments exist for sleep disorders. The specifics of the sleep disorder determine which type of treatment will be recommended.
Insomnia
Transient and intermittent insomnia may not require treatment because episodes last only a few days at a time. If a temporary change in your sleep/wake schedule, such as jet lag, causes your insomnia, your biological clock typically will restore your normal sleeping pattern on its own. However, for some women who experience daytime sleepiness and impaired performance as a result of transient insomnia, short-acting sleeping pills may improve sleep and next-day alertness.
