Aug. 9--FARMINGTON -- A fire that destroyed a Dunkin' Donuts and four vehicles on Farmington Avenue in May was caused by a failed insulator, a Connecticut Light & Power Co. spokesman said.
The spokesman, Mitch Gross, said the insulator atop the pole in front of the Dunkin' Donuts cracked, causing current to travel into the pole's wooden arm and the high-voltage line it supported.
The line burned through and fell, setting the first car afire, Gross said.
The fire ultimately consumed four cars and spread into the restaurant.
