Barefoot running is a back-to-basics trend that's gaining ground in Central New York.
As with any trend, some folks take it to extremes. The group, Running Barefoot (at www.runningbarefoot.org ) says Americans spend an estimated $26 billion a year "imprisoning our feet .. and another $28 billion in attempts to relieve the resulting pains!" Its members run marathons barefoot, on asphalt, and complain that shoes cause blisters and encourage fungal growth.
