We were born barefoot.
We didn't come with shock absorbers or midsoles or wave blades on the bottoms of our feet.
"Obviously," says Bill Aris, "we were intended to move along the Earth barefoot."
And we did, just fine, along grass and soft trails before roads became paved. Over time, coverings for the feet developed, and gradually shoemakers added cushioning, air chambers and motion-stabilizing devices.
