VIOLENT crime more than halved when mounted police patrolled the streets of Wrexham.
In a trial exercise, Greater Manchester mounted police horses were used to crack down on drink-related crime and anti-social behaviour.
And the horses also proved popular with the public.
Police hailed the trial, dubbed Operation Ballamory, a great success.
Last night, North Wales Police confirmed using mounted police in the region was 'an option under discussion'.
Violent crime was slashed by more than half while the mounted police were on duty.
