As Americans, we like to throw phrases around, such as "the right to bear arms" and "the right to free speech," the "right to a fair trial," and "the right to peaceful assembly." And most Americans have at least a vague notion that these "rights" are protected by our Constitution--the "Bill of Rights." But not many citizens of our fair country know how the Bill of Rights came to be a part of our Constitution, and even fewer know who was most instrumental in making sure that future generations of Americans would continue to enjoy the rights we take for granted--George Mason.
