PORTLAND - For every student who, far from your youth, decided to pursue something new, this story is for you. For every teacher who, flailing in inexperience, wondered if you put even a small piece in a student's puzzle, this story is for you, too.
It reached its zenith Saturday night when Willamette Writers, the state's largest literary organization, presented Jane Kirkpatrick with its Distinguished Northwest Writer Award. Among recipients of the past: Ken Kesey and Ursula Le Guin.
