The rules for drilling in urban areas in Ohio have just changed, with advocates of a new law saying it ensures the health, safety and security of communities where exploration is taking place.
The change is the result of Ohio House Bill 278, which delegates exclusive authority for the regulation of oil and natural gas wells to the Ohio Department of Natural Resource's Division of Mineral Resources Management.
House Bill 278 was exclusively designed for urban drilling in communities with a population greater than 5,000, while the rules for drilling in rural areas of the state are unchanged.
