Aug. 12--Salina property owners might be able to buy an extra bottle of pop a week or more with the money they'll save on property taxes next year -- depending on the value of their property.

Thanks to an increase in the county's total assessed property value and to an infusion of state funds for school districts, the combined property tax levy for local taxing entities for 2006 is expected to drop by 4.652 mills in 2006. That means that people whose property values remained stable will end up paying less in property tax.

How much less they'll pay depends on the value of the property.
