Aug. 13--An agency to oversee the country's overall trade strategy, the first of its kind in Thailand, will be set up this year some time after the second round of bureaucratic reform under the Thaksin administration is completed, says a senior official from the Commerce Ministry.

Karun Kittisataporn, the ministry's permanent secretary, said the cabinet approved the ministry's proposal to establish the International Trade Strategic Agency last month.

The new agency will come into being as Thailand steps up its efforts to negotiate trade agreements.
