PEEL Holdings was yesterday given the green light to take over the Mersey Docks and Harbour Company by the competition watchdog.
The Office of Fair Trading announced that, on the information currently available, it had decided not to refer the merger to the Competition Commission.
It was feared that Peel's pounds 771m acquisition of the Merseyside port group would be subject to a review because it would lead to domination of the ports industry on the west coast of Britain and particularly the Mersey estuary.
