A HAIRDRESSER turned drugs smuggler was ordered to pay pounds 229,000 after customs seized cocaine worth almost pounds 8.5m.
Anthony Chambers, of Old Langstone Court Road, Newport, and businessman Lebert Anthony Barrows, of Bethsalem, Jamaica, were previously convicted of trying to import 72.6 kilograms of pure cocaine. It had a street value of pounds 8,477,544.
The drugs were contained in 100 packages, in a wooden box concealed in a consignment of timber, imported into the UK in May 2003 from Guyana, South America.
