Aug. 13--BOSTON--Paul Konerko might have gotten Joe Torre into trouble with meddlesome owner George Steinbrenner, but the White Sox first baseman defends the decision the New York Yankees manager made Tuesday that led to a Sox victory.
"I don't blame Torre for leaving in (Alan) Embree because my numbers are bad off lefties," said Konerko, who hit a homer in the ninth inning of a 2-1 victory at New York that infuriated Steinbrenner.
Konerko entered Friday night's game at Boston hitting .280 against right-handed pitchers, compared to a .218 mark against lefties, including Embree.
