ABSTRACT
Substance abuse in the workforce represents a significant problem for employers and employees. One promising prevention and early intervention strategy is a peer support program.
This paper describes a prospective cohort study designed to test the impact of a worksite peer support program on (1) mental health and EAP utilization, (2) substance abuse and worksite safety statistics, (3) health benefit utilization and costs, and (4) productivity. The study was conducted at a large manufacturing company and included 8 intervention worksites and 14 matched control sites.
