Haiffa-born Moshe Safdie will be the master planner for the world's single largest scientific installation, an $8.4 billion Superconducting Super Collider to be built in Dallas, Texas, with completion set for 1999.

The project includes the construction of a 54-mile long elliptical tunnel, excavated in chalk, which will house more than 2500 physicists, engineers and support staff. It will also contain the world's largest accelerator and should be in operation for several decades to come.
