Park and recreation facilities should meet the social needs of HIV/AIDs patients. These people are typically considered misfits in many mainstream organizations but still need the stimulation and fellowship that recreation provides.

There have been 242,146 reported cases of AIDS in the United States through September 1992. Two-thirds of those (160,372) have died from Aids-related complications (CDC) 1992.
