While debate continued this past year over how U.S. wineries could disseminate research findings, scientific marched on. Over 10 new research papers on the subject of moderate alcohol consumption and heart disease were published in peer-reviewed journals since November 17, 1991 when CBS; "60 Minutes" first aired "The French Paradox" segment.
"While not all wine-specific, the new studies further support a role for moderate alcohol consumption in reducing heart disease risk and in several instances offered possible reasons as to why this may be so" says Dr. Curtis Ellison, Boston University of Medicine. Resveratrol, a compound in wine, may play an important role.
